Content

Northern Utah United is recognized regionally as the premier development club representing Cache Valley and Northern Utah in the National Premier League.

The YPL is a regional league that is part of the U.S. Clubs National Premier League. Covering Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, the league consists of of 4-7 events a year where participating clubs compete in a very developmental and competitive environment.

NUU views the YPL as a pathway for development at the younger ages and for execution of a game model that allows players the ability to play freely in a system of play that will help showcase each individuals strengths and abilities in an environment that will attract both MLS academy scouts and college coaches.

U9-U12 teams do not keep standings and games are used to develop the most ambitious young players in an environment where winning is important, but not the end goal. Instead it is about giving players additional competitive games where they can express themselves, take risks and learn to execute club principles of play. NUU will use the YPL games and events to prepare players and coaches to execute a club game model when they begin playing 11v11 at U13, when competition and recruiting for MLS academies and colleges start becoming higher priorities.

U13-U18 teams will be managed by the NUU Royalty coaches. Royalty teams will compete regionally, executing a game model where they can take liberties to play to their team strengths in an effort to earn a spot at Regionals and National each year. The YPL hosts a college showcase each year where college coaches are invited to scout YPL teams/players over a weekend. The 2021-2022 event will be held in January at Real Salt Lake's Academy building in Herriman, Utah.

Regardless of what club you play for you can participate in the YPL.

NUU plans to have at least one team per age/gender to participate in the YPL events. The rosters can change from event to event and everyone in a 50 mile radius, regardless of their club affiliation, is eligible to participate. NUU players will be the bulk of the roster at every event, but open spots for players outside of NUU will be made available.

The National Premier Leagues (NPL) is a national competition platform created to elevate and change the competitive youth soccer landscape by:

  • extending developmental principles espoused by U.S. Soccer into more age groups and clubs

  • linking competition with player development and identification platforms

  • providing meaningful weekly competition culminating in a national postseason

NPLs are leagues unified under one national competition platform and based on a common technical framework. More specifically, the NPL provides a platform:

  • focused on long-term player development

  • for the country’s top soccer clubs, allowing consistent, meaningful high-level games appropriately scheduled with higher training-to-game ratios and eliminate calendar congestion

  • integrated with the id² Program, which includes Player Development Programs (PDPs) in select local markets, and that works closely with U.S. Soccer staff regarding player identification, and player and coach development

  • designed and structured by the clubs, based on the needs of the clubs

  • that provides an avenue for qualification for the Girls NPL Finals and US Club Soccer Boys National Championship
